Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 2026  ·  Applies to: nilayshah.me and newsletter subscribers

This blog is run by Nilay Shah — a personal platform for writing and sharing research-backed insights on Data Architecture, AI Strategy, and Enterprise Data Engineering. I take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data I collect, why I collect it, and how I use it.

I do not sell your data. I do not run advertising networks that track you across the web. This site exists to share knowledge — not to monetise your personal information.

1. Who This Policy Applies To

This policy applies to anyone who:

  • Visits nilayshah.me
  • Subscribes to the blog newsletter
  • Contacts me via the contact form or email

2. What Data I Collect

When you subscribe to the newsletter

I collect your name and email address — nothing else. You provide this voluntarily when you sign up.

When you visit the website

Like most websites, nilayshah.me automatically collects basic technical information when you visit, including:

  • Your IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Pages you visited and time spent
  • Date and time of your visit

This data is collected through Google Analytics and is used in aggregate to understand how readers engage with the content. It is not used to identify you personally.

3. How I Use Your Data

I use the data I collect only for the following purposes:

  • To send you email notifications when a new blog post is published (typically once or twice a month)
  • To understand which topics resonate with readers and improve future content
  • To keep the website running smoothly and diagnose any technical issues
  • To respond if you reach out via the contact form

I do not use your data for automated profiling, targeted advertising, or any form of decision-making that affects you.

4. Third-Party Services

I use a small number of trusted third-party services to run this site. Each handles data in accordance with their own privacy policies.

Brevo (Email Newsletter)

Your name and email address are stored with Brevo, the platform I use to send newsletters. Brevo processes this data solely to deliver emails on my behalf. You can read Brevo’s privacy policy at brevo.com/legal/privacypolicy.

Google Analytics

I use Google Analytics to understand site traffic and content performance. Google Analytics collects anonymised usage data — it does not identify individual visitors. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

WordPress

This site is built on WordPress, which handles core website functionality. WordPress may set cookies for site operation purposes.

5. Cookies

This site uses cookies — small text files stored on your device. These are used for:

  • Basic site functionality (WordPress session cookies)
  • Analytics (Google Analytics cookies to understand traffic patterns)
  • Your cookie preferences (to remember your consent choices)

You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings or via the cookie consent banner shown on your first visit. Disabling analytics cookies will not affect your ability to read the blog.

6. Data Retention

Newsletter subscriber data (name and email) is retained for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, your data is removed from the mailing list within 30 days.

Website analytics data is retained by Google Analytics in accordance with their standard data retention policies. I do not hold a separate copy of this data.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — you can request a copy of the data I hold about you
  • Correction — you can ask me to correct inaccurate information
  • Deletion — you can request that I delete your data
  • Unsubscribe — you can opt out of the newsletter at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email
  • Objection — you can object to certain uses of your data

To exercise any of these rights, contact me directly at the email address listed at the bottom of this page. I will respond within 30 days.

8. Newsletter

When you subscribe to the newsletter:

  • You will receive email updates when new blog posts are published — typically 1 to 2 times per month
  • Every email includes a clearly visible unsubscribe link
  • Unsubscribing is immediate — you will not receive further emails after opting out
  • I will never send promotional or sponsored content without clearly labelling it as such

9. Data Security

I take reasonable steps to protect your data from unauthorised access, disclosure, or loss. Newsletter data is held by Brevo, which maintains industry-standard security practices. The website is served over HTTPS.

No system is completely secure. In the unlikely event of a data breach affecting your information, I will notify you as required by applicable law.

10. Children’s Privacy

This website is intended for a professional and adult audience. I do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe a minor has submitted data through this site, please contact me and I will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

I may update this privacy policy from time to time. When I do, the “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change. For significant changes that affect how your data is used, I will notify newsletter subscribers by email.

I encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed.
